Welcome to Laurel Canyon, a small city district where a successful music producer, Frances McDormand, a woman out of the seventies, lives. She does things that women did in the seventies. She’s still without a regular partner, still has intercourse only because she needs to, still has hot flings with girls and still smokes a joint and drinks a glass of alcohol every evening. She has all the time and money in the world. Her luxurious house is also a recording studio, which means that singers can also get sex in her constantly heated swimming pool, besides recording music. The woman is like the cult movie producer Julia Phillips, except that she doesn’t produce movies. And she’s also like the legendary Mick Jagger, except that she sits down when she pees.

One day her son, Christian Bale, a good student who gets an internship at a local psychiatric hospital, comes to live with her. He brings his girlfriend, Kate Beckinsale, with him. She’s a diligent medicine student who’s just finishing her M.D. in the field of gnat mating. The young man is at work for whole days and so the young girl is bored and spends time with his mother and her younger boyfriend. She’s slowly changing from a shy and closed-off girl to a wild and passionate woman who even agrees to have group sex at the end. In the meantime her intern falls in love with his co-worker, Natascha McElhone, who excites him by telling him stories about oral intercourse and the potential taste of his penis. Things get turned upside down, the young lovers show their secret desires, while the mother, Frances McDormand, and her lover (a future singing star) have great fun.

All the actors deserve Oscars for their unrepeatable creations. And just think about it – the girl cheats on her man with his mother and her lover. The movie in which this happens is not a horror movie, but a comedy which gets serious when you most expect it. Among the pictures you’ll see in the gallery of our heroine, you’ll recognise many famous musicians. The contents of the movie aren’t for everyone because they may turn some people’s stomachs a bit. The story of a horny mother who even seduces her son’s partner is very brave and unconventional, which means that it’s appropriate for more open viewers.
