The Spanish movie Diary of a Nymphomaniac follows the life of Valére (Belén Fabra), who realizes early in her youth that she is different from other women. She feels that she is sexually insatiable. Because of her strong sexual desire, Val experiences heavenly pleasures as well as accidents, fear, personal moral falls and even rape. The path to self-discovery and getting to know herself is long and difficult. Grandma Marie Tasso (Geraldine Chaplin) and her grandma's friend are the only persons Valerie can sincerely talk to. She experiences a great loss at the death of her confidant, grandma Marie, with whom she was close all of her life and who never judged her actions. She always advised her to enjoy her life with a big spoon and not to pay any attention to words like ''nymphomania'', which was supposedly invented by men to gain control over women.

Val loses her innocence when she is 15 years old. She starts to explore different types of sexual pleasure with different lovers, but it is hard for her to convince them to stay with her until the morning. Val and her lovers all realize that she is good in bed. When Val thinks that all she'll ever get are men who only want sex from her, something unusual happens. A wealthy business man Jamie (Leonardo Sbaraglia) enters her life and she falls in love with him. She experiences what it feels like to love and be loved for the first time. They start living together and she wants them to have a child together, despite the fact that she always leaves the bed unsatisfied. Her enthusiasm is very short, because Jamie soon uncovers his second face. Valerie decides to change her life again and pay more attention to her and her sexual desires.
