Steamy nostalgia

When you watch the movie El Otro Lado de la Cama, or The Other Side of the Bed, a mixture of comedy, drama, erotica and musical, you get the feeling you’re watching a masterpiece. This is pure Oscar material, which will, of course, never win an Oscar. It seems simple, highly effective, very realistic and dynamic throughout. This is a watchable and steamy story that not even the legendary Billy Wilder (among other things, the director of the sexy comedy Some Like It Hot). Even Ernst Lubitsch and Preston Sturges, who made similar and, naturally, less daring movies a long time ago, wouldn’t have minded making such a movie.

Cheating

That’s right, The Other Side of the Bed, directed by Emilio Martinez Lazaro in 2002, is a story about two couples who have affairs with one another. This story goes way back, way back in history, to the time of black and white Hollywood situational comedies that no one makes anymore. Even the Spaniards stopped making them in the middle of the nineties. That’s why The Other Side of the Bed is such a big, important and groundbreaking movie achievement. It’s such a good, brilliant and unforgettable trip into a top-class movie production in this genre. It’s such a welcome little movie that only Lucia y el sexo came close to it in 2001. This is another Spanish winner, where the leading role is also played by the attractive Paz Vega, girlfriend of Ernesto Alterio, who cheats on her with her best friend Natalia Verbeke, the girlfriend of his best friend Guillermo Toledo, who later gets involved exactly with Paz Vega, for whom Ernesto Alterio believes that she’s seeing the lesbian Nathalie Poza.

We’re all a bit bisexual

This is a total farce, which teaches us that we’re all bisexuals, that Kennedy shot himself, that Marilyn Monroe had an affair with Spanish president Franco and that Elvis is still alive. Just like Marilyn Monroe, who shows up at the end wearing her famous white miniskirt. Dear readers, this is a movie which you will really enjoy and which will relax you. It’ll reach your heart and heat up your body. This movie has everything a good movie needs.
