The return of the cult John Waters
John Waters is back in a big way. He returns with a movie that can easily be placed alongside his biggest classics like Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble and Polyester, which turned him into the master of kitsch, sex and bad taste. And A Dirty Shame is a return to the good old times of kitsch, filth, sex and perverse insanity.
Healing with a penis
This is Johnny Knoxville, the naughty Ray Ray Perkins, a modern Jesus, a saviour and messiah, who heals with his penis and sexual energy instead of faith. Thanks to him, conservative, frigid and boring housewives turn into horny sex machines, members of a perverted club, where people who think the same (Ray Ray’s pupils) compete in doing perverse things.
The cult director John Waters wanted actress Selma Blair to wear huge prosthetic breasts in her bra.
Several fetishes
One fetish is about licking filth, the other is pouring food on breasts, the third is dressing up like a baby, the forth is masturbation and the fifth is licking the crotch. And Ray Ray heals them all, even the uptight housewife Sylvia Stickles (Tracey Ullman), who does not put out for Vaughn Stickles (Chris Isaak), her likeable husband. He even heals the saleswoman Marge (Mink Stole), who establishes a society for sexual abstinence and was educated by nuns. He naturally also heals the busty teenager Caprice Stickles (Selma Blair with huge prosthetic breasts in her bra), the daughter of Sylvia and Vaughn, who later changes into a horny stripper. This is simply a movie that tries to say that Jesus should try to convince people to commit sins and he should pray for those who do not.
