Caligula, played by Malcolm McDowell, is a Roman emperor who loved orgies, did it with his sister, stuck his fist in male buttholes, slept with a horse, took away the virginity of local virgins, got on the nerves of all senate members, turned respectable women into prostitutes and did whatever he wanted throughout his reign.
At least according to Caligula, the first and last really high-budget porno movie, made for 15 million dollars. In 1979, it upset all the moralists, who could not believe that respected actors Peter O'Toole and John Gielgud played supporting roles. They said that they did not know there were hard porn scenes in the movie. They defended and said that the producers put these scenes in the movie later.
Anyway, Caligula is a cult without really being a cult. It is undoubtedly a unique movie experiment full of clear sexual scenes. The film has many foolish parts and bloody scenes, but it is interesting until the end and easily grabs the viewers’ attention with its lewd, perverted, easy and immoral portrayal of the ancient Romans.
