Erotic movies: Fine Dead Girls
Fine Dead Girls is the first Croatian movie with two lesbians as the main characters. This psychological drama offers remarkable erotic sequences.
Iva and Marija are lovers, dealing with the problems of discrimination.
Small town affairs
Fine Dead Girls (2002) is an interesting Croatian psychological drama showing the lives of Iva (Olga Pakalović) and Marija (Nina Violić). The girls are in love and they decide to move into a messy rented flat. The neighborhood is weird and discriminatory but the two girls fill their love nest with passion and warmth. Iva is a calm and gentle girl, a medical student, but her girlfriend Marija is quite the opposite. She is a true fighter and a warrior, she practices judo and she could destroy anyone who would try to hurt her. When they start living together they look forward to every new day they spend together. Their love is gentle and at the same time passionate, and for a while they live a magical life. But soon the idyll is spoiled by nosy neighbors, especially a woman who can’t stand
lesbians. She calls them whores and she is the one involved in an accident that happens to the two lovers. Some other interesting people live in the same building- a prostitute called Lidija (Jadranka Djokić), gynecologist Perič (Boris Miholjević) and a fanatical patriot, who listens to Croatian patriotic songs every single night. The cast of this lesbian drama is great, the dramatization excellent and the movie wonderfully conveys the eerie feeling of a small town and its untold stories.
Marija is a fighter, who would do anything to protect her beloved Iva.
Homosexuality and discrimination
Croatia is a country where the Roman Catholic Church has a strong influence. Catholic values can be easily recognized in the movie, especially because the characters from time to time express their belief that the doings and the love of the two lesbians is unnatural and against the laws of God. At the same time the most religious characters appear to be the meanest and the most malicious. Iva and Marija have to face many problems of discrimination. Besides gossipy women, they have to confront annoying boys and intrusive women, such as Lidija, a prostitute. Their love, which should last forever, is finally destroyed because of the prejudice and narrow-mindedness of their neighbors. The atmosphere of this psychological drama is at first dark and tense but it gradually changes and a certain string of events takes place, which ends with a surprising closure.
Prostitution
Lidija is a “mentally healthy”
prostitute. She doesn’t experience any problems while doing her job and she does it gladly. She is a true exhibitionist and she is often vulgar. Rather than revealing the misery of prostitutes, this psychological drama shows the wretchedness of men who visit prostitutes. Every evening Lidija is visited by an elder gentleman but he only wants to talk. At the same time he advises Lidija how to seduce Iva.
A prostitute called Lidija wants to gain some lesbian experience and decides to seduce Iva.
Relationship between two lesbians
Olga Pakalović and Nina Violić play their roles in this lesbian psychological drama masterfully and convincingly and they could easily trick every viewer into believing that they are lovers in real life too. The performance of
erotic scenes is exceptional and they are very relaxed with their co-actress’ bodies. Men are pushed into the background in this lesbian drama, they even appear as intruders in the lovely, seductive and erotic world of the two lesbians. A counterweight to such men is a friendly landlord, who approves of their love and respects it. Lidija likes them too, although her wish to experience lesbian love has an adverse effect. In one of the scenes, she takes of her clothes in front of Iva, reveals her breasts and watches the reaction.
