Erotic Movies: Lake Consequence
Zalman King, a self-appointed sex guru, produced this slightly boring but visually rich film, which is still sultry enough to watch - preferably in the company of your partner, of course.

Try Zalman King!
If you're interested in contemporary film makers who are fond of eroticism, Zalman King is – apart from the Italian master of eroticism
Tinto Brass – exactly who you're looking for.
King was the co-screenplay writer of Nine Weeks and a Half (a cult erotic masterpiece staring Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger), the director of Two Moon Junction and Wild Orchid (the latter being famous for erotic scenes featuring Mickey Rourke and his wife Carre Otis, and the rumour has it that they were not acting!), the executive producer of Siesta, the film that starred the naked Ellen Barkin. He appears to be one of those rare film makers who cultivate the genre of highly aesthetic erotic movies.
Unfortunately, most of these movies turn out to be quite uninteresting. We could say that King really has the ability of converting sex into a spun-out cliché on the screen, but the truth is that such criticism is a little unfair since soft porn fans will definitely love most of his works.
The story about a married housewife, enchanted by a well-shaped macho, is steamy, but also gets a bit boring.
When the stars get naked ...
There is probably no need to mention that the leading actresses Joan Severance and May Karasun get completely naked since this is what all women starring in King's movies have in common. However, the erotic scenes seem so lifeless and uninteresting that they could easily put you to sleep. Women will probably enjoy the view of (partly) naked muscles of Billy Zane (the bad guy from Cameron's Titanic) who shags both ladies and celebrates the differences in their pubic hair cuts. In fact, the movie is a remake of King's earlier Two Moon Junction, and Billy Zane makes a great substitute for Richard Tyson, the macho man who makes the heroine abandon her upcoming marriage, whereas Joan Severance and May Karasun appear to lack the charisma of Sherilyn Fenn.
Erotic scenes are slow and stylized.
A lesbian menage à trois
Billy Zane knows well how to entertain a bored and sexually unsettled housewife (Joan Severance) and how to set her free of prejudice: she agrees to participate in a hot
threesome with his girlfriend (May Karasun). The scene ends up in a steaming Jacuzzi bath where both women also indulge themselves locked in a sexy lesbian embrace. The shots and cinematography are typical of Zalman King: he stylizes sex so that passionate sighs are replaced by music score. Many claim that this deprives the film and its sex scenes of the spontaneity, lust and genuineness plus it causes the majority of the audience to fall asleep instead of evoking feelings of arousal.
Two Moon Junction – though a shallow film - attracted the audience with Sherilyn Fenn in the leading role whereas
Lake Consequence's actresses just weren’t able to take advantage of the screenplay and acted too faintly to make the movie as steamy as it should be. Nevertheless, some scenes display King's sense of artistry and prevent the viewer from calling the movie cheesy, for example the scene when the two women meet for the first time on the lake shore and when the lesbian goings-on are hinted at. If you’re a fan of King's soft porn, containing a bunch of slow, visually rich sex scenes accompanied by a smooth sax score, Lake Consequence is definitely worth watching.
