Brigitte Bardot’s sexy fashion show

Famous actress Catherine Deneuve is anything but the beauty and sex symbol in The Repulsion. Roman Polanski’s decision to show a different side of the French “belle de jour” was at that time extremely brave and controversial. Louis Malle wanted to do something similar with Brigitte Bardot in his movie Vie Privee. In this erotic drama he changed this “God created woman”, a woman of classic beauty, into a neurotic movie star, who yields under the stress of stardom and decides to live in seclusion. But what makes this drama rather unusual is that it shows Brigitte Bardot ballet dancing, playing a guitar, wearing a swimsuit and a white, extremely tight t-shirt revealing her bosom. In the movie she seductively gets out of bed, has a loud orgasm, shows her long legs, wears sexy underwear, temptingly nibbles an apple, dries her long hair and wears a white sheet only. She also wears a white dress, a hat and dark sunglasses and a dress with cubic pattern but no bra, so her nipples can be seen. She has a sixties’ hairdo with two pony tails and my favorite outfit- blue t-shirt with white trousers, which are especially tight around her bottom. She sweeps the floor in a sexy dress with a plunging neckline and with a towel on her head. She wears jeans, once again white tight t-shirt, you can see her naked in the bed and then wearing a suit, tie, hat and a shirt, oh and that gorgeous blue t-shirt and you see her breasts again… Anyway you see her in a thousand different versions, hairdos and even two different hair colors (when she has a breakdown she dyes her hair black but when she is in love she decides to be blonde again). Bardot’s drama is packed with eroticism and we would get the same impression if, let’s say, Brad Pitt tried to prove that he is a profound drama actor, but in each third scene we would see him naked, for example having a shower and showing his butt. It is a bit confusing because no one can really figure out how to understand this drama.

An interesting insight into the world of the famous

Now let’s focus on other things which this rather interesting erotic drama has to offer. Undoubtedly you will think of Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo and Princess Diana. The first one, as you know, committed suicide, the second one said: “I just want to be alone” and gave up film art forever and the third one was killed by the media- the paparazzi. So what about our attractive heroine, played by Brigitte Bardot? Brigitte actually plays herself, so could we say that she accepted the role in her autobiography? All through the first half of the movie she tells us the stories of her life, including the ending of her movie career. The movie character named Jill was at first a modern ballet dancer in Geneva and the wife of a dancing teacher Dick (played by Dirk Sanders). He took her to Paris and they separated there. Jill was noticed by fashion designers and very soon became a movie star. “Something clicked between the face and the camera” said the narrator and headlines like “A Million Dollar Body” and “Jill Conquers the USA” appeared in the newspapers. But then the story takes a different path- the life of Jill ends tragically. She falls off a roof because of a paparazzi flash light and dies.

Burdens of fame

As you know, fame brings many things which we, ordinary people, never experience. Including dumping one man after another. And although Jill seems unapproachable on the movie screen, she actually enjoys her power to such extent that even the cleaning lady calls her a whore. Every step she makes is seen by the public. But during the frenzy at the movie premiere she collapses and ends in hospital with a nervous breakdown. She seeks solitude, travels back to Geneva and starts an intimate romance with the newspaper editor, played by Marcelo Mastroianni. He promises to keep her safe and protect her from journalists and photographers. Vie Privee is an erotic movie about a famous person who becomes tired of everything and yearns for some privacy. It is a story about the downsides of fame, which is at first appealing but soon turns one’s life into a a rollercoaster drive. Movie stars can not exist without the media so it is irrational to demand from the photographers to leave them alone. But photographers often forget their limits. Our Jill first loves the solitude but then feels trapped and even accuses her lover of keeping her locked up. Their love affair is soon discovered by the media and this is another blow to our already confused heroine. Journalists and photographers literally go berserk and try to nose out a story, so they chase Jill with cars, boats and choppers. What can I say, it is the life of a typical celebrity, who mustn’t be seen getting drying her underwear or who has to trick the press with a double, just as Princess Diana did, or, like Evita, greet her fans from the balcony.
