Sexual Intercourse after the Operation of the Prostate
The prostate may cause great problems with urinating for men after the age of 50. If the prostate is removed, there may arise quite a few problems in bed as well.

The prostate gland surrounds the urethra and is approximately the same size as a nut. It forms a part of the male reproductive system and it produces the fluid that is one of the main components of the sperm. While travelling through the urethra, the fluid is mixed with the semen and is excreted from the penis in ejaculation.
However, this important gland causes numerous problems for men when they are in their 50s. Not only that
prostate cancer and enlargement of the prostate cause problems with
urinating, but in many cases they also require removal of the prostate.
It is the removal of the prostate that may lead to
erectile dysfunction or problems with erection. Namely, the nerves which enable erection may be damaged during the operation of the prostate.

Today, there are numerous medications available for treating the potential problems with erection, and a vacuum pump device may also be of great help in maintaing erection. Fortunately, most men can continue their sex lives in the same way as prior to the operation of the prostate.

Men experiencing problems with erection need the emotional support of their partner more than anything else. (jlp)
After the operation of the prostate, some men can experience the so-called dry orgasms. This means that they cannot achieve ejaculation any more. The semen is caught in the bladder, and the sperm is secreted later together with urine. Because a man with such a problem is unable to conceive a child, it is important that he is informed of that prior to the operation of the prostate. After the operation, he continues a somewhat adapted - but in principle normal - sex life, with the understanding and support of his partner.
