Music Works Wonders in Bed

Music has a greater effect on us than we imagine. So, how can one choose the right music for sex?

You can spice up sex with music.
You can spice up sex with music.

Shakespeare wrote ”If music be the food of love, play on,” in Twelfth Night. He wasn’t the only one to consider doing something connected with sex and listening to music at the same time as a good idea. Music is great for background, creating the right mood. With its lyrical qualities it stirs up the imagination, it creates a rhythm and a certain type of movement. If you’re susceptible to innovations when it comes to sex, you can even put on headphones. In this case, the sound will penetrate your thoughts even more and you should feel fellatio and cunnilingus more intensely.

How to pick the right music and incorporate it into intercourse?

It isn’t necessary that your favourite music from the times when you were growing up and a teenager corresponds to the type of music you should listen to when you’re naked. The right choice might be something with a fast rhythm, but your view on how sex and music should be intertwined is still most important. For example, sounds of the ocean can take you away, especially if they remind you of a romance you had the previous summer and the romance is still going on.

Research came up with interesting findings: people who listen to jazz have 34% more sex than people who mostly listen to pop music. The saxophone with its shrill sound seems highly erotic. Listening to classical music, on the other hand, supposedly makes people less horny.

Some musical genres stimulate the intellect and affect the development of children. A study has even shown that 3 and 4 year-old children who learn to play an instrument improve their mental abilities because the neurological connections are built and upgraded very quickly at that age. Children who take piano lessons every day are supposedly better in doing their chores and taking intelligence tests than the children taking part in computer classes (by 35%).

What’s more, “heavy metal” supposedly makes a person more grumpy, bitter and cranky. The majority of people supposedly feel most comfortable listening to something with the rhythm of 70 to 100 beats per minute (to picture this better, “house” is between 125 – 128 beats) because this is closest to the rhythm of our heart beat.

The next question is concerned with your sexual dynamics. Are you an iguana who thinks searching for food is an extreme sport or a rooster who crows every morning with excitement because he’s polygamous? If you’re a fan of rough and wild sex with no restrictions, your choice of music will most likely reflect this.

Hip hop, despite the lyrics, doesn't really seem suitable during intercourse.

Does music dictate how you feel?

Steven Halpern, a doctor of philosophy and an esteemed composer and musical connoisseur, claims that listening to new music is accompanied by the workings of two physiological laws. The first law is that the body is a human tool. The ears aren’t the only ones to respond to sound, but various organs also respond to it in various frequencies, just like the strings on a guitar – the body is an instrument. The entertainment law is connected to this: the natural rhythm of our breathing and heart beat is easily drowned out by the beat of an external regular rhythmical stimulus. To summarize: sex is people, music is people, and the intertwining of the first with the second depends on you. Most music is too “intrusive” and requires our attention, even though it’s used only as a background. We are culturally determined to respond only to certain chords and melody patterns. If the melody becomes too familiar and recognizable, it becomes boring and I doubt that anyone wants to change the music during their favourite sex position.

Ask Brian Eno!

Composer Brian Eno has come up with a cheap gadget to enhance your sexual experiences. You put a speaker above the bed to create a quadraphonic effect (sound used to create a spatial effect) and you will feel like you’re surrounded by sound. So, if you want to dance while doing it, then listen up for a start.
