When I was studying for my final exams, a friend of mine described to me the most unforgettable sexual experience she had ever had. She called it tantric sex. It lasted for 9 (!) hours and all the time she imagined that she and her boyfriend were lying on a yellow, glowing hoop that filled them with energy while making love. Of course, we laughed at her story of the yellow, glowing ball, but I'm still haunted by the question: "What if everything was true?"
More than thousand years ago, when tantra was born in the minds of Indian esoteric philosophers, the idea of tantric sex had above all a spiritual meaning: people practising tantra should thereby reach higher levels of spiritual growth. Tantric practice became familiar in the Western culture only after 1950, in particular the segment of tantra connected with sex. With time, the esoteric aspect of tantra moved into the background and today we speak of tantra primarily as a sexual experience.
What is tantric sex?
In ancient India, the people who practised tantra renounced "normal" sexual pleasure to achieve higher levels of satisfaction. In order to reach them, they engaged in a foreplay which lasted for several hours and led to sexual intercourse. You have to make several breaks during intercourse, which may in time lead to orgasm (which is not obligatory and doesn't include ejaculation). Tantric sex is therefore the longest possible foreplay, prolonging pleasure with the desire to achieve a deeper connection with the partner. In normal sex, as we know, we have foreplay as long as we can hold out and then we quickly satisfy our passion.
There are a number of ways to have tantric sex, and there are several books and videos on the subject. Many existing tantric exercises have developed new ways of sexual satisfaction. An important aspect in practising such sex is the drawing of energy with the help of breathing. Energy overflows the whole body and achieves the connection of chakras (energy channels) between the lovers. Tantra requires that you take time for enjoying the moment.
People with the experience of tantric sex say that this "method" of lovemaking creates more affectionate and closer relationships, better communication between the partners, more intense orgasms, a man's orgasm without ejaculation, sex lasting for several hours, easier reaching of orgasms for women, as well as
multiple orgasms for both women and men.
