Are Men Really More Horny Than Women?

Is the belief that men think of sex more often than women true, or is it just a cliché?

The answer of men to the question about the connection between romance and sex would probably be completely different than the answer of women. Men would say without hesitation that they love sex, while women would almost certainly link it to emotions and a serious relationship. That is at least the assumption of author Susan Selinger. Dr. Eva Ritvo, the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Mount Sinai Medical Centre in Miami, says that men often really are more horny than women. However, men aren't the same. Some men have a stronger desire for sex than others. It would perhaps be ideal to compare their sexual lust with a desire for food. Some men could eat night and day, while others have enough if they eat one hot meal a day. Susan Selinger says in jest that no man likes to miss his lunch.

How often do you think of sex?

Experts have been trying to measure human lust for quite a while, more precisely, the difference between the lust of men and women, or how many times a day men and women think of sexual activity. Dr. Patricia Koch from Pennsylvania believes that it is very difficult to define human desires for sex. Signs of sexual arousal may seem obvious and visible. Men experience erections and women’s vagina gets wet, while the clitoris swells. However, the desire is often reflected only in the brain, which means that it is not visible on the body, and it is this desire that Koch would like to assess. Experts believe that sexual desire is much easier to notice in men because everything is linear without any changes. There is the desire, arousal and orgasm. In women, things are full of twists and turns, and are basically more complicated because women also include emotions. This is one of the reasons why it takes longer for a woman to warm up and experience the climax. But to a lot of women the partner’s devotion and the fact that they are loved and held in a secure embrace is more important than reaching an orgasm.

Differences between partners

One partner may be irritated because he or she is more more horny and there isn't enough sex for them and the other is irritated because of being constantly bothered about it. The research carried out by therapist Richard Driscoll showed that in the USA couples who have been married for five years have sexual intercourse once to twice a week and problems arise because of the fact that women do not feel the need to be intimate so often. One of five women admitted that she had turned her man down in bed several times, and at least half of men also said their wives had turned them down a few times when they wanted to have sexual intercourse with them. An interesting difference between men and women is the fact that absence of sex makes men rather miserable, while women could live without it, says Edward Laumann, a sociology professor. He adds that men, on the other hand, are much more pleased with their sex lives than women, who complain because they don't achieve orgasms.

Good sex life is the way to happiness

Numerous studies show that good sex life is a condition for a happy and healthy life. Couples who have a lot of sex are healthier and more satisfied than those who forget about sex life. The healthiest sex is the sex that deepens love, which has been showed by a recent study according to which married people and people in serious relationships are physically and mentally healthier. Does that mean single men and women who have sex only for fun are less healthy because their sex lives are not upgraded by love? This theory is probably too bold, but it may sometimes be confirmed in practice.

Is your partner hornier than you?

It is normal and completely logical that one of the partners in a relationship is more excited about sex than the other, so you don't need to burden yourselves with that. The man is often more horny than the woman, but the relationship in which the woman has this honor is not so unusual as well, especially if we consider the fact that a woman in contrast to a man can continue sexual intercourse without any problems immediately after reaching orgasm. If the difference between you starts to bother you and if one of you is increasingly more miserable, it is advisable that you don't lose your nerve.
