How to Interpret a Dream with Homoerotic Content?
Having a dream with explicit scenes of sexual intercourse with the same-sex person is not rare at all among heterosexual people.
It's usual for us to explore various sexual fantasies in our dreams. (jlp)
Doctor Thomas Stuttaford is convinced that the percentage of people who are completely homosexual or heterosexual is extremely small. Most of us show a mixture of both sexual tendencies, and having a dream with homoerotic content is therefore nothing odd.
Generations of doctors concluded that homoerotic dreams often appear when our sex drive starts declining. This happens after the age of 40. If the decline of our sexual desire is also associated with non-active sex life, there often appears the so-called
facultative homosexuality, which makes our dreams more colorful.
Homoerotic fantasies appearing in one's dreams can be a result of repressed emotions, but this isn't necessarily the case. (jlp)
Dr. Stuttaford, a physician at the urological and gynaecological clinic, said the following about confusing sexual tendencies and one's having a dream with homoerotic content once in a while: "During my work at the urological and gynaecological clinic I met an unexpectedly large number of mostly homosexual people looking as average, middle-aged housewives. One of the patients told me that she frequently dreamt about sexual intercourse with a woman. To check her tendency towards the same sex, she decided to have sex with a woman. Although she loved to flirt with both sexes, she could not carry it out. When they were both nude, she was disgusted by the woman standing in front of her instead of feeling attracted.”
Having a dream with homoerotic content once in a while doesn't exactly make you a homosexual, unless you feel attracted to members of the same sex also in your conscious life, on a daily basis. (jlp)
Most homoerotic dreams do not indicate
homosexuality. However, in a small percentage of people an increase in such dreams may indicate a change in their sexual desires. This applies in particular to people who grew up in the 1960s and 1970s. During the sexual revolution there was much said about free love, homosexuality and other taboos. However, the parents who raised children in those days were especially strict and rigid. The children of such parents often suppressed their homosexual feelings and, against their will, replaced them with heterosexual practice.
