In the 1950s English-speaking nations named the practice of exchanging partners “wife swapping”. Now this expression has been replaced by a more neutral term – swinging. Men and women have an equal role and a similarly strong sexual desire. The roles are even reversed. Women, not men, even have control during swinging. They decide and lead the game. Couples mutually consent to go past the boundaries in their heads and allow one another physical and psychological pleasure in harmony with their needs. A research in 2000 and in January 2009 showed some interesting points to consider about swinging. The review of the research from the year 2000 and a new research was conducted by Dr. F. Fernandez, Barton College.

Average education is 14 years in school, politically and religiously widely spread, 75,9% of them identify with the slogan “life is exciting” (in the rest of population only 45,7%).

The assessment is that there are 50 million swingers in the world. Adult Friend Finder, the oldest and biggest Internet swinging site, has a base with more than 27 million members. Approximately 20,000 new members sign up every day. Kasidie, the biggest social net of swingers on the Internet, doesn’t reveal accurate data, but the people there do confirm that this is only a fragment of the worldwide swinging community.

In defense of swinging (although swinging needs no defense)

Swinging is a non-monogamous sexual activity which can be treated like any other activity performed by couples. Emotional monogamy and a romantic relationship with one partner
remain just as important. Swinging requires the consent of both partners and communication. Even though swingers often become close friends with other couples, the rules of conduct prevent any emotional attachment. Even though swinging includes intercourse with others, it usually strengthens partnership bonds and the general life of a couple. The couple can explore their fantasies freely because there are no negative emotions, mysteriousness and dishonesty involved with the natural desire for sexual versatility. Because there’s no need to cheat, the honesty and trust in a partnership are on a completely different level. The openness on an emotional level is achieved without any jealousy.

For the end we give you some other interesting data. In societies which stimulate monogamy, 73% of men and women have admitted to cheating on their partner at least once. (Schmitt, 2005) People are obviously not monogamous beings, so it’s time to change the social frame.
