We're in Love and We Love to Swing!
Why do people love to swing? Well, it’s got nothing to do with lack of love.

Swinging is one of the ways how couples spice up their sex life. They regularly attend swinging events with a partner whom they love, whom they find utterly sexually attractive, who loves them, and who loves to swing as well. Swinging is their way of life and their way to express themselves as well as experience sexual delight with a beloved partner in tow. Swinging is still regarded as a phenomenon that had been brought about by the sexual revolution of the 1960s and appears to be getting more and more popular, but there still are many couples who would never dare to even try it. Does this mean that people who love to swing are a bit weird?

Do people who love to swing just want to free themselves from social norms?
Although swinging got quite a lot of attention during the last 40 years or so, it still appears to be a sort of taboo for many. Social scientists have conducted many researches on the phenomenon of swinging as well. The first sociological research projects had included twins as research subjects, but their results were mostly inconclusive and so offer room for countless speculations. Some social research claims that swinging is brought about exclusively by the environment one grows up in and the wish to be free and experience pure excitement. The same research also states that one’s own personally plays a small role when it comes to becoming a swinger, while genetics are even less important. What is then so exciting about swapping partners at a social event? There must be something to it, since the porn industry has used swinging to make millions. They didn’t invent anything new. The producers were just smart enough to mimic real life, capture people’s fantasies on tape, and sell them for top dollar.

What do people who love to swing, athletes, and drug addicts have in common?
Biologists offer their own explanation about the phenomenon of swinging. In 2002, researchers at the Psychiatric Institute of a renowned American University supposedly isolated a gene that causes people to take higher risks when seeking an adrenaline rush. This particular gene is supposedly common to surfers, people who love to swing, and drug addicts. If this is true, swinging could either be regarded as an extreme sport or an addiction.
Can genetic research answer all social questions?
Swinging isn’t illegal but it’s still a form of sexual behavior that is often frowned upon. If people don't approve of something they don’t understand, they strive to find all kinds of reasons why it’s wrong, forbidden, or at least socially unacceptable. Often people will turn to genetics for reasons why a certain behavior isn’t good. This is quite interesting, because it means that naysayers apparently forget that prohibitions are generally the consequence of social consent and have nothing to do with genetics. So looking for answers about psychological, social, religious, and even political questions on the grounds of genetic research can be understood as a complete waste of time.
