What are fetishes?

A fetish is a chosen thing that has a special power for an individual. For some primitive tribes, a fetish is an object that has supernatural powers and is worshipped as a deity. In a modern society, a fetish means something entirely different, since it names an object that arouses sexual desire in an individual. According to many sexologists and psychologists, the basis for the development of a fetish is already formed in childhood. The key moments can be the time when you sit on your father’s leg and play ‘horse-ridding’, or when you are on the floor and observe legs of adults who sit at the table. The act because of which you were often scolded in your childhood can be of key importance as well. These and other factors make a mental connection between an object and libido. Smell, touch and association are important. Women are often frightened of men with fetishes because they are worried that the object could become more important than them.

Common fetishes #1: Feet and high heels

The most common fetish among slightly more unusual fetishes is the fetish about feet and shoes. Psychologists describe the cases of fetishes where people searched for a suitable sexual partner their whole lives solely on the basis of the shape of feet and toes. Some people considered the shape of the big toe important, while others considered important that the big toes and the index toe were equally long, or they dreamt about an amputated toe their whole lives. In the case of high heel shoes, a fetishist is turned on by the effect they have on a woman’s body. The breast and buttocks of women who wear high heels are more emphasized. The female body has a new balance and a sexy dimension. Naturally, high heels also emphasize women’s legs and their length. Famous Sigmund Freud saw sexual connotation in the above fetish. How? A foot represents the penis and a shoe represents the vagina. If thinking that, putting on a high heel shoe is almost pornographic. This fetish also existed in ancient Chinese culture. Chinese women wrapped their feet tightly to make them look as small as possible. A lot of Chinese literature includes praising of female feet, kissing of feet, masturbation with feet and so on.

Common fetishes #2: Leather, latex and rubber

Experts explain that there are more fetishes about leather, latex and rubber in Great Britain than in the USA because people more often wear rubber boots in their childhood due to rain. This, of course, isn’t the only and most reliable explanation. This fetish is about the sensation of the material on the skin and its smell. Sexual intercourse in a car with leather seats can be crucial for its development as well. Thus, the connection between the smell of the material and sexual desire is established. People don’t only have the aforementioned fetish about clothes made of latex. They can also have a fetish about sweaty snickers with rubber sole, leather gloves or a leather jacket. All the above can arouse a desire for sexual intercourse in fetishists and suddenly turn them on. The symbolic meaning of wearing clothes from latex is in fact wearing a condom. If you think this is unusual, you haven’t heard of a fetish about complete body trapping.

Common fetishes #3: Complete body trapping

This fetish turns on a person if his or her body is completely trapped. It is still the fetish about leather, latex and rubber, only the body is literally trapped in the aforementioned material. Rubber or latex are used for the fetish, while it is also popular to use special black beds made of latex where a fetishist is trapped as in a vacuum. It is only possible breathe through a tube. The fetish also includes sleeping and PVC bags and even – you won’t believe this – gas masks.

Common fetishes #4: Corset

If the aforementioned fetish involves complete trapping of the body, a corset involves partial trapping. Namely, the straps and ropes used to tighten and squeeze the body put a woman in a slightly subordinate position. She looks helpless, which is a strong erotic stimulus for a man. Additionally, corset emphasizes specific parts of the body. It was already used as a part of clothing four thousand years ago and it is still produces identical results: lifted and emphasized breasts, tight waist and emphasized hips. This shape of a body always meant fertility and the adulthood of a woman. Of course, an additional meaning was sexual by nature.
