A history of the pill
The combined oral contraceptive pill is often referred to as birth-control pill or simply the pill and it was first placed on the market in 1960 in America.
The advantages of the pill are protection against
unwanted pregnancy, regular menstrual cycle and, of course, sexual intercourse without a condom – naturally, only if you checked whether your partner does not have any sexually transmitted diseases.
The positive characteristics of the pill made the American women so enthusiastic about it that since the beginning of 1961 the pill had been taken by more than 1 million of women in America.
A history of the pill and the sexual revolution
Some say that the sexual revolution happened because of the pill. Until then women were just passive participants in sexual activity but after the pill they were able to protect themselves and enjoy in their sexual life without having to worry about pregnancy.
This year the contraceptive pill is celebrating its 50 years on the market. There are 35 different pills on the American market today and other methods of contraception have been developed too, for example the
contraceptive patches. According to the official data of the American Health Agency, 10 million American women take the pill, and the actual number of users of this method will probably even increase.
