The term was introduced by Laseque in 1877. It means increasing and satisfying sexual lust by exposing the genitals. It begins in puberty and ends prior to the age of 50. Exhibitionists after the age of 45 are very rare. Female exhibitionism is not recorded, although some striptease dancers show similar behavioural patterns. The man’s main goal is to scare and shock a woman. Exposing the genitals is not aimed at starting sexual intercourse or arousing sexual desire in a woman. In this way a man wants to show a woman that he has the penis and he is still a man, as well as get confirmation based on.

Why do people feel the need to expose themselves?

People who have a need for exposing their genitals usually come from families without fathers and they become deeply attached to their mothers. Despite getting married and having children, their self-confidence only feeds on the confirmation of their superiority over women. Exhibitionism always follows steady routine and is usually triggered by a quarrel or humiliation. You therefore always meet them in the same places, wearing the same clothes. When they catch their victim and get the expected response from her, some of them masturbate. In principle, exhibitionists do not seek physical contact. If a woman has a different reaction, that is, she starts laughing or humiliates him, he feels ashamed and guilty, and sometimes angry and afraid as well. They are quiet, tidy, bashful, sexually avert, lonely and unrelaxed by nature. Exhibitionism gives them thrills and excitement in everyday life.

Different types of exhibitionism

There are several types of exhibitionism. One of the most common types is verbal or spiritual exhibitionism. Some men call women by telephone and only breathe deeply or speak obscene things. There are also paedophile and mentally challenged exhibitionists. The first ones expose themselves to children and the others are in fact not capable of judgement due to mental retardation or the mechanical disorder of the brain, but they are probably entertained by the astonishment and attention of people because of their action. There are no data on how looking at the male sexual organ influences the development of a child or a woman. To date there has been no evidence that this would have any long-term effects.

Therefore, if you meet them, and you will meet them, stop and look at what is being displayed and then go on. These people need help, although they rarely decide on it. They are not violent. Actually, they are very vulnerable and helpless. However, be careful. Exhibitionists are not the only ones who wait along forest paths and dark streets. There exist far worse forms of evil in the world and they often assume another form.
