Harmful Plastic Products

We can hardly imagine our lives without plastic products. But do we ever actually consider the question how plastic affects our health? Research proved that plastic products can be harmful to our health also when it comes to fertility.

A substance in plastic called phthalate (esters of phthalic acid, a substance group mostly used in the production of chloride (PVC) to improve elastic qualities of plastic mass), present in bottle caps and other food containers, can be harmful to male reproductive organs or the liver with long-term exposure. We can get these substances into our body by inhaling them, they can get through our skin and we can also eat them.

Bisphenol, which can be found in sunglasses, compact plates, baby bottles, etc., has a negative effect mostly on women, by causing sterility. Experiments were performed on lab mice, which were exposed to the phthalates of butyl alcohol (present in plastic pipes, carpets, lipstick ...). It was found out that plastic products have a harmful effect on estrogen, a female sexual hormone. Long-term, phthalates-derived products can cause breast cancer.

It was because of children that phthalates in children’s toys have been banned in many countries.
