After the age of 50, the body changes as well as sex
When your body ages, your sexual needs, desires and capabilities change as well. You have to talk to your partner about the changes occurring to your body in the menopause and andropause and tell him or her how you feel and what you want.
The men’s testosterone levels decrease with their age. Their erection is therefore less firm and it takes them longer to achieve it and to regenerate afterwards. The chemical substance responsible for erection has an increasingly shorter time of effectiveness with age, especially after the age of 50 – this problem is usually resolved by Viagra and similar drugs.
In women, levels of oestrogen decrease, which can make them less sensitive to the partner’s desires. A decrease in oestrogen can also lead to emotional imbalances or changes.
After the age of 50 you better look after your general health
Non-sexual diseases can also be the cause of problems in bed. Problems such as cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, hormonal problems, anxiety and depression can affect your ability to achieve an erection or moisten your vagina. Apart from diseases, side effects of the drugs you have to take also play a very important role as well as the emotional stress when finding out that you’ve fallen ill, which happens with increasing frequency after the age of 50.
Drugs can affect your desire for sex, arousal and ability to achieve an orgasm. Talk to your doctor if you suspect that drugs have an adverse effect on your sex life.
After certain age, you no longer need to use protection against an unwanted pregnancy, but sexually transmitted diseases don’t ask about age – therefore, use a condom!
After the age of 50, your libido is like wine
A common problem arising in a long-lasting relationship is a discrepancy in libido. Don’t throw in the towel, but rather talk to your partner and, if necessary, a therapist as well.
It’s advisable that you determine the time intended to have sex. It sounds like a routine, but regular sex increases a desire for sex. Masturbation also has a very positive effect. In women, it maintains the elasticity of the vaginal walls and increases their hormone levels, while in men, it maintains their erectile response.
Life expectancy is rising steadily and the period of sexual activity as well. If you want to have sex on your menu as long as possible, make sure you exercise regularly, eat a balanced and healthy diet, stop smoking and avoid alcohol.
After the age of 50, you should try to spice up your sex life with long and different foreplay, use lubricants, change positions and don’t forget that sex is a sexual act, but also includes cuddling, kissing and imagination.
