Sleep sex or
sexomnia is no joke, but a serious disorder which forces people into various sexual acts during sleep. The good news is that it is curable. It was first defined in 1996 by Colin Shapiro from Toronto as a type of
parasomnia, and later on it was named sleep sex by Dr. Saul Rosenfeld from Los Angeles. It has to be said that sexomnia has nothing to do with people who have
sexual dreams (dreams of having sexual intercourse). Sexomnia appears with loud and excited moaning, aggressive masturbation and even unaware intimacy. Sufferers sometimes unknowingly force their partners into intercourse, but remember nothing when they wake up. Many sexomnia moonwalkers, who are aware of their condition, try to prevent it from happening. Some even tie themselves to the bed, but this only leaves them with injuries in the end.
Scientists connect sexomnia with brain disorder, sleep disorder and other emotional disorders. It is important that a person with clear signs of sexomnia seeks medical help immediately, because it is often accompanied by many negative feelings, such as anger, fear, frustration and guilt, which lead to stress and pose a potentially dangerous situation for the partner.
If you come across a sleepwalking person who wants to nail you, remember that it is very hard to wake up such a person. The best solution is to wait until he/she wakes up in their own time, unless - of course - something too disturbing or even dangerous is going on.
