Sleep sex or sexsomnia is a rare but serious disorder which makes life very difficult for some people. Most individuals find it disturbing and unpleasant, and consider it a grave problem that can cause a serious threat to their relationship. Others find this disorder pleasurable and amusing.
People suffering from sexsomnia behave similarly as sleepwalkers do, only that their behavior is connected with sex. When awake, they remember nothing of their act.
Sleep sex is a more current medical discovery and the scientist have been studying the case for only a decade. Sleep sex has thus been divided into more subcategories, among these narcolepsy, insomnia, hallucinations,
hyper sexuality, sexual assaults during sleep and others.
One of the experts for
sleep sex disorder says: ''Even though people are aware of the disorder, many seek no help. Often they do not know that this is a true sleep disorder or they are afraid of being judged by others. Those who believe to be suffering from this disorder should consult their GP, who will direct them to a sleep disorder specialist.''
