Sexual Attraction to Old People

If you think Sean Connery is worth committing a sin, you are not a gerontophile. With Elizabeth Taylor, you are already on the verge of being one ... But with your neighbor’s 90 year old grandmother, you show a definite sign you need treatment.

Just as we cannot describe paedophilia with the expression "love for children", gerontophilia also has nothing to do with love for old people. In general, it is connected with sadism, rape and necrophilia. Sexual arousal caused by intercourse with an old woman or man is solely a transformed instinct for punishment, revenge and demonstration of power. A lot of gerontophiles have had violent childhood with strict parents or with an important role of grandparents.

When you see women accompanying rich old men in wheelchairs in newspapers, the diagnosis is greed and not sexual disorder. Gerontophiles are largely heterosexually oriented, and attempts at having sexual intercourse with old people often end with murder or other ways of sadistic torture.

However, the term gerontophilia can also be used in a milder form, when the aim of young people is to seek confirmation and safety in relationships with experienced maternal or paternal figures. In that case, the disorder is harder to define. In addition, there is no violence involved, perhaps only a broken heart and a rich widow.

Rehabilitation of the victim is even more problematic. There are a number (although too few) programmes for victims of sexual assaults if they are children or women. There is no special programme for old people. It is difficult for victims to talk about it, and it is easy not to believe them. A lot of old people live alone and are completely powerless in case of an assault. There is also a stronger possibility of injuries. The worst thing for the elderly is to face the cruelty and absurdity of such an act. Loneliness in old age makes old people too trustful and they slowly start idealising life, while a sudden touch with reality can be a too heavy burden to bear.

If you therefore know somebody who makes a contemptuous remark when seeing an old woman that he would f... her, refer him to the nearest psychiatrist. The statement is not funny.
