What are steroids? They are a synthetically produced form of the male hormone testosterone. They increase protein synthesis within cells, which results in the build-up of cellular tissue (anabolism), especially in muscles. Since they increase muscle mass and strength, they are mostly used by bodybuilders and those sportsmen who fail doping tests.

Steroids can initially increase your libido.

In the field of sexuality, steroids have a positive effect on sexual desire. Individuals taking them possess a huge sexual appetite. But the long-term effect is not pleasant at all: steroids can cause the shrinking of the testicles and the penis, impotence, troubles with the prostate  and breast growth. When it comes to women, steroids affect menstruation (it is possible that it doesn't appear for months), unnatural growth of the clitoris, and breasts become smaller.

They are extremely harmful in the long-term. Steroids can cause liver, kidney and heart failure and can even lead to death. They cause elevated blood pressure, increase the level of cholesterol and cause convulsions. The side effects are also paranoia, depression, pimples, growth of body hair and baldness.
