The connection between stress and sex life
Recent research conducted in Britain reveals that stress destroys sex life. On the biological-physiological or hormone level, stress means an increase in the hormone adrenalin. Adrenalin triggers a set of processes inside and outside of the body that prepare the body for fight or flight. The heart rate increases and the blood pressure rises. Glucose and fatty acids are released and, at the same time, blood from currently less vital parts is directed in vital organs and muscles that we need for both fight and flight.
The same mechanisms, which enable us to survive when facing a danger, lead to illness in the case of chronic exposure to uncontrollable stress factors. People under stress are exposed to the diseases of the heart and the circulatory system (stress triggers fatty acids that raise cholesterol, as well as adrenalin that increases the heart rate.) Stress also has an effect on the menstrual cycle and libido and it causes heartburn and irritable bowel syndrome. Unhealthy, bad habits are also connected with stress (alcohol, smoking, unhealthy diet).
The research about stress
British researchers found that stressful life and irregular diet destroy sex lives of millions of the British, reports The Sun, the British tabloid newspaper. A study conducted by the Novo Nordisk UK pharmaceutical company included 2037 British citizens over the age of 16.
A third of the people surveyed admit they avoided sex lately, in particular, due to fatigue. This, of course, also has an effect on heightening of tension in the relationship itself. Along with fatigue, the most common factors for
losing libido are stress at work and the stress caused by the financial situation, with which you are probably more than familiar.
