In the first part, we described fungal infection or candida and explained why it develops. In this article, you can find more about treatment methods for a fungal infection.
What it the treatment for fungal infection?
There are various methods of treatment. While some people insist on more alternative methods, gynecologists will prescribe you antibiotics or a cream.
The length of treatment depends on how severe an inflammation is. Fungal infection is usually cured within 3 to 14 days, but the treatment can also last longer. Drugs normally prescribed to treat fungal infection are vaginal drugs in the form of pills or suppositories, creams, or a combination of both (physicians usually prescribe Canesten, Gyno-Daktarin, Ecalin and Nistatin). Treatment in the form of capsule is considered to be the most effective one. Such treatment can produce an effect within a day because the drug is accumulated in the skin and mucosa, and it stays there longer. Of course, if there are more serious problems, the treatment is prolonged accordingly. The examples of the drug in capsules are Diflucan, Diflazon and Sporanox. Your physician will determine the most appropriate treatment for you. Regardless of what your physician prescribes, it is very important that you do not interrupt your treatment, even if symptoms disappear. Otherwise, you take a risk that you will be infected again.
Can you cure fungal infection by yourself? What drugs are available?
Some drugs for treating fungal infection are available without prescription. These are, for example, local antibiotics in the form of cream (Canesten, Oronazol, Ecalin, etc.) which are intended for external use on your genitals. Both partners can use them. Various products containing 20% of borax glycerine are also available, in the form of vaginal suppository or solution, and they produce an effect within a few days.
While some people trust a physician, others prefer more alternative methods. One method for treating fungal infection that usually helps is to wash your vagina with camomile tea and then leave a tampon soaked in yoghurt in your vagina for the night. If you repeat the process for 7 days, the infection should disappear.
Pregnancy and fungal infection
Pregnant women are also exposed to fungal infection and its recurrences. During pregnancy, the use of drugs is slightly restricted and some of the drugs are not to be used by pregnant women, particularly in the first trimester. It is necessary that you consult your physician or pharmacist who will advise you the best treatment method.
