What you should ask your physician, how do you treat erectile dysfunction, and how dangerous medications are.

Diagnosis: erectile dysfunction

If your physician makes a diagnosis that you suffer from erectile dysfunction, your sex life is not over yet. There are a lot of different treatments and the choice is largely yours. Your physician will give you the most common treatment on the basis of a suitable diagnosis, but there is often an alternative. Here is a set of questions which will help you find out everything you need to know to make a decision on the method of treatment of erectile dysfunction.

  • What treatments are now available?
  • How do you distinguish between individual treatments?
  • Which method will enable me to react to my partner as usual?
  • Which method will enable me to have normal sex life, as I had before ED?
  • Are there any treatments which are not affected by food?
  • What are the possible side effects of different medications?
  • How often should a medication be taken?
  • Can the medication for ED react with other medications?

Medications for erectile dysfunction

The last few questions mostly refer to the treatment with medications, which is not the only option. You can also receive vacuum treatment or have a penile prosthesis surgically inserted. ED is usually treated with medications, mostly in the form of pills or capsules to restore the normal flow of blood in the penis. The effect of medications lasts 4 hours, or even 36 hours. Some medications are affected by food, particularly a fat-enriched diet and you are not allowed to drink alcoholic beverages. It is therefore very important that you ask your physician everything before choosing a treatment method because it can make your life much easier. One of the treatments is use of intracavernous injections (direct injection in the penis), but this is a fairly awkward, demanding and frightening method of treatment.

Intracavernous injections are direct injections in corpus spongiosum of the penis.

Help yourself

You should not rely on medical help only. If you are obese, have an unbalanced diet, drink too much alcohol, smoke, or if you are in a sitting position for long periods, and you are not interested in sport, the best treatment for erectile dysfunction is to give up the bad habits and change your lifestyle. Do not only rely on medical help. You alone can do a lot for your health!

The immediate effect is guaranteed, but the procedure is fairly complicated and indiscreet. (jlp)
