Erotic dreams shouldn't be interpreted in a literal way
We've all had erotic dreams. It doesn't matter if these dreams are exotic and wild, unusual and restless, gentle and romantic, there's always a reason for a certain type of dream at a certain moment. Dreams with sexual content are usually a medium which helps us to understand ourselves, our desires and passion, which are often hidden on the subconscious level of our mind. »Sexual dreams shouldn't be interpreted as a literal expression of our wishes and inclinations,« says Charles McPhee, author of the book Ask the Dream Doctor.
If you're heterosexual and are dreaming about sexual intercourse with a person of the same sex, that doesn't necessarily mean that you have homosexual tendencies, but it only means that you need to love yourself more and accept yourself as you are and come in touch with the female and male side of your personality. If a person is skeptical about certain changes in real life, they sometimes manifest themselves in dreams. In most cases these kind of dreams are a sign that the changes will start to happen in real life too.
Erotic dreams often remind us it's time for a change
Erotic dreams are so frequent and natural as the sexual act itself. This kind of dreams shouldn't bother us, but we can use them to look deeper into their meanings and to take a deeper look inside of ourselves. Dreams often indirectly crystallize our wishes and what are we missing. Dreams can become our private therapist. Dreams with sexual content, which include characteristics of yourself that you don't posses, often express your wish to develop these characteristics. For example: if a gentle, quiet, calm woman dreams about an aggressive lover who grabs her and does whatever he wants with her, it shows that the woman lacks confidence. More direct interpretation could also mean that your libido is telling you that it's been too long since your last intercourse. This kind of dreams can also hint to your suppressed sexual wishes or your desire to experience physical and emotional love.
Erotic dreams are a safe place for expressing fantasies
Spiritual and physical side of the personality are closely connected in dreams. Erotic dreams often give us hints about our erotic wishes and how do we want to express ourselves sexually. Everyday life is usually quite different that we want it to be and when we can't achieve unity while we are awake, the dreams restore the balance and soothe the tensions. Erotic dreams are a compensation for the things we lack in our real life. Let's have a look at another example: There was a monk who renounced everything, strictly followed the rules and rejected physical contact with women. He started having erotic dreams which confused him. A closer look of an expert revealed that dreams were his way of balancing the inner and outer self. The dreams satisfied his sexual needs despite being celibate for his whole life. Dreams are a neutral place where a dreamer can cross all the boundaries and overcome sexual fears.
